Quick Guide: Brother HL 5250DN Setup

What's in the box?

Brother HL 5250DN Hardware Setup:

• Unpack the Brother printer from the carton.
• Place the Brother printer on a flat surface and away from direct sunlight.
• Remove the protective tapes surrounding the printer body and discard them.
• Press the Release button to open the front cover.
• Unpack the drum unit and the toner cartridge assembly from the sealed packaging.
• Gently rock the assembly to redistribute the toner.
• Hold the handle and gently place the assembly inside the printer.
• Close the front cover.
• Pull the paper tray from the front of the Brother HL 5250DN Setup.

• Press the Blue paper guide release lever to adjust the paper guides present inside the tray.
• Have a paper stack ready in hand.
• Fan out the pages in the stack to ensure that they are even without any damages.
• Place the paper stack into the paper tray.
• Adjust the paper guides present inside to hold the paper firmly.
• Ensure that the paper stack does not exceed the paper tray limit.
• Put the paper tray back into the printer until it goes fully inside.
• Remove the power cord from the sealed packaging.
• Now, connect the plug to the power source and to the rear end of the printer.
• Press the Power switch located right next to the power socket.

Brother HL 5250DN Software Setup:

• Since the Brother printer comes with an installation CD, the process is quite simple.
• First, place the CD into the CD/DVD drive of the computer.
• Wait for the computer to detect the CD and the Autoplay window to open.
• Follow the commands on the screen.
• When the connection page opens, select the USB type of connection you want for the printer.
• Complete the setup process.

Despite the technical aspects the printer supports and produces, there are some problems that you might face with the printer along the way. Some of the problems are paper jams, the printer is offline, the printer is not printing, the paper is not feeding, and so on. Here are the solutions for the problems you might face with the printer.

Brother HL 5250DN Paper Jam

If the paper is jammed in the Brother HL 5250DN printer, here are the simple steps to resolve the issue. 

Jam inside the printer:

• Ensure that the Brother printer is turned off.
• Press the Release button on the cover to open the front cover.
• With the handle, slowly remove the drum unit from the inside along with the cartridge assembly.
• If the printer encounters a paper jam, you will notice the jammed paper coming along with the drum unit and the cartridge assembly.

Jam in the input tray:

• Remove the input tray from the bottom of the printer.
• Look inside the printer for jammed paper.
• If there are any, slowly remove the jammed paper using both hands.
• Discard the jammed paper and place the paper tray back into the printer.

Jam at the back of the printer:

• Open the back cover of the Brother HL 5250DN Setup.
• Pull the tabs on the sides of the printer to open the fuser cover.
• Locate and gently remove the jammed paper present inside.
• Ensure that you do not damage the paper any further (it might lead to printing complications).
• Close the back cover.

Jam in the Duplex tray:

• Pull the duplex tray present at the back of the printer.
• Locate and pull out the jammed paper either from the duplex tray or inside the printer.
• Once removed, place the duplex tray back into the printer.

Jam in the Drum Unit:

• Press the Release button to open the front cover.
• Remove the drum unit.
• Press the blue lever lock in the drum unit to release the toner cartridge.
• Remove the jammed paper that is present inside.
• Discard the jammed paper and place the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until it clicks in place.
• Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the printer.

Brother HL 5250DN Toner Reset

• Ensure that the Brother HL 5250DN Setup is turned off.
• Open the front cover.
• Turn on the printer and press & hold the GO button at the same time.
• When you see that the LEDs for Toner, Drum, and Error are on, release the GO button.

• Press the GO button twice.
• If you are using a TN330/TN720 toner cartridge, press the GO button 5 times.
• If you are using a TN3380/TN750 toner cartridge, press the GO button 7 times.

Brother HL 5250DN Printer Offline

Your Brother printer could appear offline due to some issue, and it will be unable to communicate with the computer you have. This sort of error can be more annoying than the Brother printer not printing. If you ever come across the message "Printer Offline," there are some methods that can resolve the issue in no time.

Fix 1: Set It As The Default Printer

• Open the Control Panel on your Windows computer.
• In the Control Panel window, click the Hardware and Sound option.
• Click the option Devices and Printers.
• Do a right-click on the Brother printer and select the option Set as default printer.
• Once the Brother printer is made default, you will no longer see it go offline.

Fix 2: Delete Print Jobs

• Click the Windows (Start) icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
• Click the Control Panel option from the list.
• In the Control Panel window, click the Hardware and Sound option.
• Select Devices and Printers.
• Right-click on the printer and select See what's printing.
• Click the Printer tab. 
• Select the option Cancel all documents.

Brother HL 5250DN Connected To Wifi But Not Printing

• Make sure that the Brother printer is turned on or connected to the power source.
• Check the paper tray and see if there are enough sheets to perform your ongoing print job.
• Make sure that the print setting matches the paper in the paper tray of the Brother HL 5250DN Setup.
• Other possible issues could be printer errors like paper jam or printer is offline.
• In the paper tray, check the arrangement of the paper.
• Fan out the stack evenly to avoid future printing problems or paper jams.
• Confirm that the paper is not too glossy.
• Ensure that that paper is placed with the softer surface facing up.
• Ensure that the paper guides are holding the papers firmly along the edges. 
• Replace the paper if it appears to be damaged in any way.
